Scholarship Guidelines
 
PURPOSE for Category 1 and Category 2 Scholarships:
 
To provide financial assistance to members, their children or grandchildren and to encourage an interest in Sokol Milwaukee and Czech/Slovak heritage, for attendance at a post-high school or accredited education institution.
Two (2) scholarships may be granted each year to qualified applicants.
The  scholarship year is from July 1st to the following June 30th

CATEGORY 1 - $3,000:
 
Eligible candiate(s) - A graduating senior who is a Sokol Milwaukee member, the child or grandchild of a member, for a minimum of two (2) years and within the last five (5) years.
 
Scholarship will be based on grades, school activities, participation in community service and activities with Sokol Milwaukee and the essay provided.
 
Applicant must provide one (1) reference letter, a high school academic record, and a 500-word essay relating to one or more of their Sokol Milwaukee experiences.
 
The first half ($1500) of the scholarship will be granted at a Sokol Milwaukee Membership meeting, the second half ($1500) will be granted after the completion of a minimum of 12 credits at a college or technical school with a grade point average of B (2.5 GPA) or better. Proof of the 2.5 GPA is required and be provided to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

CATEGORY 2 - $4,000
 
Eligible candiate(s) - An enrolled, college or technical school student who has completed a minimum of 24 credits, an active member of Sokol Milwaukee, the child or grandchild of a member, for a minimum of two (2) years and within the last five (5) years.

Applicant must provide a transcript of the last year of college credits, and a 500-word personal essay relating to how you have changed as a person after one year of college.
 
Scholarship will be based on grades, participation in activities with Sokol Milwaukee and the essay provided.
 
The first half ($2000) of the scholarship will be granted at a Sokol Milwaukee Membership meeting, the second half ($2000) will be granted after the completion of one (1) semester of schooling with a grade point average of B (2.5 GPA) or better. Proof of the 2.5 GPA is required and be provided to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

NEW IN 2024
 
PURPOSE for CATEGORY 3 Scholarship:
 
To provide financial assistance to members, their children or grandchildren and to encourage an interest in Sokol Milwaukee and Czech/Slovak heritage, for attendance at workshop or class.
Up to three (3) scholarships may be granted each year to qualified applicants.
The scholarship year is from July 1st to the following June 30th. Time period of review etc.
 
CATEGORY 3 - up to $750
 
Eligible candiate(s) - an active member of Sokol Milwaukee, the child or grandchild of a member, for a minimum of two (2) years and within the last five (5) years.
 
Applicant must provide an application requesting the scholarship including the reason why and expected outcome.
 
Multiple scholarships cannot be awarded to the same individual in the same year.
 
This scholarship may be awarded to the same individual a second time for a different workshop or class. However, in the event there are no new qualified applications received, a third award to the same individual is possible but subject to the maximum lifetime award of $750.
 
Scholarship is for a member, their children or grandchildren attending a workshop, class or event dealing with the Czech language, history, genealogy, education or culture.
 
Scholarship will be for a maximum of $750 but no more than ½ of the cost of the workshop, class or event being taken. The scholarship cannot be used for travel, hotel, meals, and other personal expenses.
 
The maximum lifetime award of $750 per applicant.  It will be the responsibility of the scholarship committee to record and monitor the lifetime awards.
 
After the event, the applicant must give a 5–10-minute presentation at a membership meeting or must write an article of 500-words minimum for the newsletter.
 
The scholarship will be granted at a Sokol Milwaukee Membership meeting, if possible, to the recipient of the award and after the completion of a 5–10-minute presentation at a meeting or an article for the newsletter.

NEW IN 2024
 
SLET SCHOLARSHIP for 2030 Slet in Czech Republic
 
To provide financial assistance to a member in order to encourage an interest in Sokol Milwaukee's relationship to American Sokol Organization (ASO) and ČOS (Česká Obec Sokolská) and Czech/Slovak heritage, for assistance to attend a Slet in the Czech Republic. This scholarship will only be available during the years in which American Sokol is part of the Slet event.
